Job Description

To provide overall strategic and operational leadership to Baylor Uganda.  Under the guidance of Board of Directors, the Executive Director defines Baylor Uganda’s strategic vision and is responsible for its implementation, and the results achieved

Key Result Areas

Strategic Leadership and Representation

  • Act as Secretary to board and work with board to develop organisational strategic plans and fulfil Baylor Uganda’s vision and mission.
  • Communicate effectively with the board and provide in a timely and accurate manner, key strategic and other material operational information necessary for the board to function effectively and make informed decisions
  • Work with Board Chair in evolving and strengthening the overall governance of Baylor Uganda.
  • Operationalise, lead and monitor implementation of Baylor Uganda’s strategy. Ensure that Baylor’s vision, mission and values form the core foundation for its strategic plans and work
  • Enhance organisational excellence by establishing operational benchmarks, KPIs and targets for accountability and consistently driving performance improvements and accountability
  • Ensure business continuity and  an integrated risk management approach through adequate and comprehensive risk profiling, developing risk mitigation measures and contingency plans and implementing appropriate action plans
  • Represent Baylor Uganda before any competent authority; and at the highest levels ensuring that its mission and role is well understood and appreciated, through direct engagements with policy makers, key partners, donors and execution of an effective communications strategy

Program delivery and impact

  • Ensure adequate resources are acquired and prudently managed to meet and enable quality program implementation
  • Ensure the highest standards of quality, impact and accountability in program implementation through compliance with applicable policies, standards and donor requirements.
  • Ensure adequate oversight over project proposals, reports, audits and evaluations to meet impact and accountability requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with government, businesses, peer agencies and communities to ensure quality and sustainable program delivery

People, Finance and Operations

  • Ensure that Baylor has sound organisational structure, adequate operational policies and sound business processes to sustainably fulfil its strategy
  • Coordinate the preparation, monitoring, control and submission for approval by the Board the organisation annual work plans, reports and budgets in line with the organisational policies and Board constitution
  • Initiate, review and recommend organisation policy changes to the Board for approval in line with Baylor Uganda mission
  • Initiate, participate in recruitment, monitor and appraise the senior management team’s performance and take corrective action in line with the organisation’s objectives
  • Build and maintain a positive work environment that facilitates collaboration and is conducive to attracting, retaining and motivating diverse and high calibre talent
  • Oversee the management and implementation of all organizational contracts according to Baylor procurement systems and practices that deliver value for money
  • Ensure that the Baylor brand is respected and Baylor operations or staff conduct do not harm the Baylor brand.
