Job Summary
Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice in engineering; planning, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain plans and budget to ensure delivery on agreed cost targets and timescales
- Ensure that maintenance processes are carried out taking account of the quality system and legislative requirements
- To monitor trends in plant and equipment performance and energy usage and advice management as required
- Identify business improvement opportunities within the organization
- Identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems to deliver projects, including the engagement of external resources as required
- Drive functional excellence of the engineering team
- Drive continuous improvement activities in quality cycle times, process improvement, Spare availability through lean techniques and value to enhance the capability of existing processes and remove waste
- Ensure that machines are maintained effectively to maximize the production demand of high quality and safe product as per management set targets and objectives
- Coordinate installation and maintenance automated production systems
- Control and organize the implementation of the daily, weekly and monthly activities plans for the department
- Monthly monitoring and control of the maintenance expenditures against budget
- Ensure 100% compliance of the standards maintenance procedures for equipment as per the ISO 22000
- Provide daily, weekly and monthly reports as may be required
- Monitor the management of spare parts in collaboration with inventory to limit shortage and usage control
- Coordinating and interfacing with other department managers to ensure efficient management and scheduling of engineering in response to production requirements.
- Responsible for leading, managing and developing the effectiveness and performance of the Engineering department.
People Management
- Ensure the delivery of the People Strategy within area of accountability
- Manage and lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels, development, appraisal, attendance, and daily supervision to maximize efficiency
- Motivate and coach the team to operational success
- Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems
- Consistently promote high standards through personal example and rollout through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them
- Proactively contribute to creating a good team atmosphere performance
- Set department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports
- Communicate KPIs from the strategic annual plan so that each employee is aware
- Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required
- Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures
- Provide technical expertise to the team

- 10+ years of Practical experience preferably in the dairy environment with at least 3 years at managerial level
- Good knowledge of the dairy industry is added advantage
- Bachelor’s degree in, Electrical, Industrial Engineering
- Registered with the engineering professional Body is Added advantage
