Job Description

At BeadforLife and Street Business School, we help women living in poverty experience that feeling by turning their spark into a fire of purpose. We provide entrepreneurial training programs for women living in deep poverty through our Street Business School, with a goal of reaching 1 million women by 2027.
BeadforLife/Street Business School is looking for a creative and organized Communications Assistant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity to experience storytelling via multimedia channels in its most raw form, while working for an organization that is expanding globally. What better job than to share inspiring stories of women who are changing their lives? In this role, you will become our “on the ground” communications support, providing story and projects deliverables as defined by the Uganda and US Communications Team. Your work will be in the following areas: story identification/research, business visits, interviews, story writing and development, photography, videography, editing and more. You will work in tandem with the US Communications team to ensure goals are being met.
What we’ll do for you:
· You’ll be challenged, you’ll be inspired, and you’ll be proud to see your spark igniting the world
· You’ll work directly with the Communications team and gain an understanding for the operations of the organization
· You’ll work in the Uganda office and at the heart of our work, in the field
· You’ll have growth opportunities within the team
Responsibilities:
· Identify stories of members that will resonate with our key audiences and supporters
· Interview individuals to uncover their stories and successes with our programs, uncovering those “sweet spots” that may appeal to the reader
· Write and edit stories that uphold the voice of the organization and have a natural story arch
· Capture compelling communications visuals, including photos and videography
· Upload creative assets to organized department folders in ASANA or DropBox
· Work within ASANA (our project management system) to meet communications calendar deadlines
· Participate in meetings with Uganda and US Communications teams
· Coordinate and work with other professional talents who are documenting BeadforLife/Street Business School’s work i.e.: photographers or videographers
· Provide wide array of general communications support, based on organizational needs
· Assist with business coaching of organization’s members
Qualities we are seeking:
· Excellent written communication skills
· Proven fluency in English and Ugandan languages and a good understanding of the the local culture
· Ability to manage a variety of creative tasks through excellent organizational skills
· Keen visual eye to capture inspiring moments
· Ability to write to various audiences and flexibility based on feedback and guidance from the team
· Prior knowledge of working with technology and tools- smartphones, video cameras, regular cameras
· Knowledge of digital and social media marketing and trends
· Desire to make a difference in the world
Position details/compensation:
· Compensation is dependent on qualifications/experience.
